In honor of the icon, the inspiration, the hero that was Hilaree Nelson, we decided to republish her 2019 Stokecast interview. Through this, please allow Hilaree to continue inspiring your next great adventure and your most fulfilling life. On September 26, 2022, while skiing off the true summit of Mount Manaslu in Nepal with partner Jim Morrison, Hilaree Nelson was swept off her skis by a small avalanche that carried her off the south side of the face. Her body was found two days later. Hilaree will be missed, but her spirit and legacy will live on.

Born in Cleveland, Ohio, she moved west to Bellingham, Washington, after college, where she fell in love with the North Cascades. Now in Portland, Oregon, Alex works for Evolution Healthcare and Fitness, specializing in sports nutrition for local endurance athletes. Outside the office, she and her husband, Matt, enjoy the mountains of the Pacific Northwest, training for ultramarathons, climbing, skiing, and balancing their work with their adventurous pursuits as passionate "Weekend Warriors."
